PROSTHETIC EYES

The surgical procedure to remove the entire natural eye is referred to as an enucleation. The surgical procedure to remove the contents of of a natural eye is referred to as evisceration. Both procedures will require prosthetic restoration with the fitting of a prosthetic eye. This process can usually begin approximately six weeks following the initial surgery.

Fitting the prosthetic eye begins with an ocularist taking an impression mold or other advanced fitting methods to accurately contour or manipulate the anophthalmic socket.  These techniques are utilized to ensure the prosthesis has optimal cosmesis, comfort, and movement.

SCLERAL SHELLS

A scleral cover shell prosthesis is a thin prosthetic eye designed to be worn over a discolored and or disfigured eye. The prosthesis covers the entire surface of the cosmetically blemished eye, restoring its natural appearance. Our ocularists strive to provide you with the most comfortable, cosmetically matching, and naturally moving cover shell.  There is no surgery involved to obtain a scleral cover shell, just a few appointments at our office
